Camo Wrap Used to Promote Mercedes Benz AMG GT
April 20, 2014

Mercedes-Benz is planning to debut their new SLS replacement called the AMG GT in 2015 but the company has already been sending out attention-grabbing teaser prototypes of the new car. A recent version of the new model was spotted driving around Barcelona with an eye-catching camouflage wrap in neon green and black.
Somewhere between camo and green tiger stripes, the wrap turned heads in Spain and made car enthusiasts excited to see the final version when it is released. Instead of sticking with the traditional gray or black, Mercedes-Benz chose to create a prototype that offered a more unique way for people to get a glimpse of the upcoming model.
The New and Improved SLS
The car company decided to wrap up production of the SLS AMG, turning their attention to a new model known as the AMG GT that will act as an updated replacement. The name is likely to change and it won’t act as a direct successor to the SLS but it will replace it at the top of the Mercedes-Benz range of cars. The new car is expected to compete against the Porsche 911 which is in their top range of high performance sports cars. The AMG GT is smaller than the SLS and may potentially be more affordable than the old model going out of production.
The model will offer a range of different engines with different power outputs and varying price tags. The best available engine of the GT model will be a new 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 with something around 600 HP. This top engine will be paired with seven-speed dual clutch transmission and possibly an all-wheel drive setup like recent AMG S 4matic models.
Creating the AMG GT
The new model of Mercedes is expected to be debuted in October at the Paris Motor Show but it has already gotten plenty of buzz among auto aficionados. Talk about a new Mercedes sports car model has been around since 2011 with numerous reports on the car emerging over the years. There were earlier prototypes based on the SLS a few years ago but they were shelved because it would be too expensive to compete with its target rivals such as the Porsche 911, Audi R8 or Nissan GT-R.
The newer prototype has recently been revealed with interesting new wraps to catch attention and target younger buyers than the SLS. The GT is meant to be more modern rather than the retro-inspired SLS which appeals more to an older market.
Fans of the SLS will no longer be able to purchase the vehicle once the AMG GT has been officially launched. The new replacement for the SLS will initially be made available only as a couple for the first year and then later as a convertible. It is expected that there will eventually be an even higher performance Black Series model to be launched sometime in the future after the first few versions are available to consumers. The recently revealed prototype wrapped in neon and black camouflage was visibly smaller than the original SLS and had completely redesigned LED head lights.
The newer model is also expected to weigh much less because of its smaller body and new aluminum space frame, possibly up to 300 pounds less. Now that Mercedes-Benz has been promoting their new version of the SLS with brightly-colored wraps, consumers can look forward to buying the final version toward the end of the year. Mercedes claims that it is the most beautiful car that they have ever designed and it is expected to be a popular new luxury car to rival its competitors.
