Microsoft Reveals New OS For ‘Connected Cars’
April 24, 2014

Technology moves at a fast pace, and on a monthly basis new advancements are announced, powering rapidly changing technology that people interact with on a daily basis. One of the most interesting recent announcements involves tech giant Microsoft and their announcement of a new OS for ‘Connected Cars’. Smart phones have become an integral part of many people’s lives, to the point where people spend at least half their day with their nose buried in one.
Being constantly connected to a device has become a requirement. And Microsoft is taking it one step further with their connected vehicles. Recently, Microsoft has unveiled their latest OS for controlling data flow between phones, tablets, and vehicles. This way people will always have access to the data they keep on their smartphones and tablets.
Competition Between Tech Giants
The competition to corner the car market is a battleground between Apple, Google, and Microsoft. The intensely competitive world of technology has now been focused on the car, and Microsoft in 2014 revealed their most recent prototype for connected cars, so that people can start bringing the features of their windows devices into their car. This means that people will never have to go without being connected, even when they’re driving.
Microsoft has been aggressively trying to reach this growing market and start building more business partnerships with car manufacturers. Currently, they are underrepresented in the market, and they want to spread the word that Windows can be integrated and customized into different car systems. Microsoft has already developed relationships with such major car manufacturers as:
- Kia
- Ford
- Fiat
- Nissan
Marketable Features
Microsoft boasts a wealth of marketable features, such as the ease of development, where software development is streamlined and compatibility ensured. The technology platform is also flexible, so that it can work with Bluetooth, MAP, and allow people to have connectivity without using their hands to e-mail, text, and organize calendars. What’s most impressive, is that this technology will all be integrated into the car system so that people can still be focused on the road.
The Intelligent Car
What this all inevitably seems to be leading to is the evolution of the intelligent car. As smartphone devices continue to evolve, so does the need for every machine people use on a regular basis to be connected. As people spend more time in their cars, the vehicles will be used more than just for driving, and people will be able to find ways to access more features that their smartphones have. Future generations of people will start growing up with intelligent cars, and eventually any car that isn’t connected to a music radio station, or isn’t connected to email and text will seem strange and very outdated.
Fortunately, Microsoft has put safety measures in place, so that a person will only be able use features that enforce safe driving behavior. Then all the features will be available once the person is parked. No matter how advanced technology gets, there is a still a base of common sense that people must use when using the latest technology, particularly when it involves operating a vehicle at the same time.
