Paint Is Dead, Wrap Instead!
January 29, 2014

Attend a car show. You’ll see that more than half will be sporting some spiffy colors, matte metallic, and crazy textures that catch the eye. It’s taken the car world by storm, this car wrap trend, but did it really kill the good old paint job?
The number one positive point of a paint job is that it will last for years and years. Your car will have accumulated a lot of mileage already but the paint job will still be there. Of course, repaints are necessary since paint jobs do fade over time – much like tattoos. The thing is, in this fast-paced world, everyone’s quick to change their minds especially where trends are concerned. So the main positive point of having a paint job is also its downfall in today’s fast-paced world of Internet and mobile advertising. If you want to own a moving ad and change it after a few seasons, a paint job is a big no-no. You cannot remove a paint job without damaging your car’s original finish.
Another pro when it comes to choosing paint jobs is that you can paint almost all areas of the vehicle without having to hire a really great vehicle wrap designer. Wraps cannot cover all parts of the vehicle. There are lots of rules when it comes to wraps and it depends on your state/country’s laws and regulations. However, if you coordinate with a great designer or ADI’s in-house design team, you can easily create a stunning look that will far outweigh anything a paint job can offer, design-wise.
Facts and Figures
The statistics have spoken: more than 70% of people said that they’ve seen a car wrap or a vehicle. This comes as no surprise since car wraps, when done right, are incredibly catchy. It’s a great way of utilizing people’s creativity! There are lots of wraps out there that even make use of optical illusions and this season’s high-end neon colors. But the best thing about wrap advertising is that is can be more than 50% cheaper than other forms of outdoor-advertising trends. Not to mention that almost 50% of people who see car wrap ads are intrigued due to the “new” nature of this kind of ad. Let’s just say that car wraps have a certain je ne sais quoi.
Who Goes for Vehicle Wraps?
A lot of luxury car owners go for car wraps as opposed to paint jobs. Luxury cars (or any vehicle for that matter) make for a great canvas for stylish matte colors and line-enhancing designs. Business owners are big fans of the car wrap trend, as they only have to pay a small cost for a great advertising strategy. Small-scale business owners can easily get noticed in the local neighborhood as they go about the day’s work driving from one place to another. Food trucks and delivery vans also make for a great canvas for different kinds of wraps.
