World Wrap Masters Returns To FESPA Digital 2014
May 20, 2014

FESPA’s World Wrap Masters is a pro wrap competition featuring international competitors. FESPA describes itself as a federation of associations who are dedicated to the printing industry, including screen printing, digital printing, and textile printing. They sponsor the World Wrap Masters competition, and it offers a fascinating glimpse into a niche industry that has grown in popularity as an effective marketing channel.
Everyone from hip-hop artists, to small local businesses, to mega-brands, utilize vehicle wraps to promote their products. Wraps involve a custom design being printed on vinyl and then it’s expertly applied to a vehicle so that the original paint of the vehicle isn’t compromised.
Cost-efficient and versatile, bright and attention-grabbing graphics can be printed on the vinyl, applied to the vehicle, and eventually removed or adjusted easily without harming the original paint. A well-done wrap looks like it’s painted on, because it is so seamlessly attached to the surface.
Inside A Pro Wrap Competition
Expert wrappers from all around the world gather for FESPA’s pro wrap competition in May 2014 with a new format for the competitors. It’s a four-day competition and will include a timed event, where the participants will have to race against a clock to wrap a car door. The winner is crowned the World Wrap Master. But to achieve that honor they will have to take part in a series of challenges that will push their skills in wrapping to the limit, and this includes fitting an assortment of objects such as:
• Mannequins
• Bathrooms
• Podspeakers
• Cars
The competition wants to showcase how versatile wrapping can be, and show just how skilled expert wrappers are. Besides the title of World Wrap Master, the winner will win a cash prize, and surely lots of attention and job offers as a result of showcasing their skill.
A Wrapping Renaissance
What FESPA’s World Wrap Masters competition also underscores is that wrapping is expanding, and the full potential of the industry is being expanded. Previously, wrapping has been confined to vehicles and was strictly thought of as having that use. But this competitions shows that other items can be wrapped, and under the hands of a skilled master, the results can be impressive. The competition is also open to the public, and anyone who’s interested can watch and even join in. This may be especially useful for printers, who are looking to expand into wrapping and want to see the process firsthand.
Last Year’s Winner Will Attend
Piotr Cinski, last year’s winner, will attend and he will serve as a judge for the 2014 competition. He will also demonstrate advanced wrapping techniques and be available to give insight and tips into wrapping. What the competitions seems to want to do is to push the limits of creativity that goes into wrapping. Instead of just being confined to wrapping vehicles, wrapping can be used in other creative and innovative applications. Competitions like this will help explore the boundaries, push people’s skillset, and also expose the growing industry to anyone interesting in learning more.
Nonetheless, vehicle wraps will probably remain the focus of the wrapping industry for the foreseeable future. Vehicle wraps are always strongly utilized in marketing, and in high-profile sporting events like NASCAR. The demand for vehicle wraps will surely be around for a long time to come. But competitions like these might expand the application of wraps, so that the industry can continue to expand and grow.
Education is also an important part of this growth, since many people don’t know anything about wraps, and the great things that can be done with them. The FESPA World Wrap Masters competition is always considered a crowd-pleaser and people who attend will also learn about business opportunities that the wrap industry can offer.
