Avery Dennison Graphic Solutions recently hosted a competition featuring their Supreme Wrapping Films for professional vehicle wrap installers to see who could create the most unique and best installed car wrap. The competition was created in order to allow wrap installers the chance to both showcase their skills and work with Avery Dennision’s products to the best of their ability.

This is the second annual “Wrap Like a King” Challenge with last year’s grand prize going to the winner, Ara Hakobyan who wrapped a Mercedes Benz SLS in ultra-matte red that impressed the judges. The new challenge for 2014 was announced earlier this month and submissions will be accepted until September 15th when seven judges will review each entry.

High Quality Car Wraps by Innovative Designers

Last year’s car wrap challenge was a huge success for the company as they saw an impressive level of talent in a number of the wrap submissions. There were 158 entries to the contest in 2013 with interesting car wrap projects from all over North America. The winner was given the grand prize of $2,000 cash as well as a free trip to the SEMA show that year. The judges were amazed by the diversity of the entries with everything ranging from beautiful and subtle solid color change installations to more complex, multicolor installations using a variety of different films and new converting techniques.

Many of the entries took advantage of the variety of films available through the company’s product line and were made with superior quality that the judges were thoroughly pleased to see. There were three runners up and a total of $25,000 worth of prizes given away to participants and voters.

New Materials for Contestants

This year their new line of Supreme Wrapping Films includes 20 new colors and finishes including satin, pearlescent and chrome colors that professional wrap installers are likely to be excited to work with for the competition. There are now a total of 78 opaque cast films for installers to choose from with a wide range of colors and finishes that can be used to make a creative and completely unique wrap for a vehicle. This year the winners will be those that are given the Judge’s Award and the Fan Favorite Award as they are announced on October 13th after each entry is reviewed by the judges.

32 Car Wrap Projects Chosen

There will initially be 32 wrap projects chosen by the judges that will be able to move onto the next round. In the second round the judges will choose one of the winners while car enthusiasts and fans of the competition will be able to choose the other winner for the Fan Favorite Award through public voting online. Voters can even enter to win a prize of $150 Croftgate gift car.

The judges for the competition are all experts in custom cars and design so they will be looking for only the best quality wrap job that makes use of the materials in the most creative possible way. They are expecting the competition this year to reach new levels with increase in options available for wrap colors and finishes and the amount of up and coming designers that will get involved in the new challenge. The new designers will be able to showcase what is possible to create with the car wrap materials and how creative and appealing they can look on any kind of vehicle. The ideas in the competition could spark some interest in car wraps for people who have never ventured into the world of custom car design. The challenge will be inspiring for designers, judges and voters alike.
